“independent Milwaukee-based art cultivated by complete freedom of expression”
One Milwaukee, One Vision
Cream City Records is a record label first conceived in late 2016 and brought to fruition in 2018 to cultivate and foster Milwaukee’s lush music scene. Cream City Records aims to release projects that establish Milwaukee further as a key player in the Midwest music scene by melding both audio and visual art together in a vision that not only brings value to the local scene but propels that vision outside the reaches of Wisconsin.
Matt Glassel, President and Chief Curator
Matt Glassel is a die-hard vinyl collector with passions ingrained in both music and the visual arts. While attending school in St. Louis, Matt became heavily involved in the campus radio station, KSLU, and the local St. Louis music scene. It was at KSLU that Matt began to hone his skills in organizing concerts and music events through the Billiken Club; hosting acts such as Untold, Teklife (DJ Spinn, DJ Earl, DJ Paypal), Lapalux, Shlohmo; Jandek, and No Age. Upon returning to Milwaukee in mid 2015, the dreams of Milwaukee's artistic potential started to flood in. With what started out as a mere daydream, Matt has worked to nurture the idea of a record label from the ground up to establish Cream City Records. Cream City Records was born out of Matt's love for vinyl records and the magnificent city of Milwaukee. These days, you can catch Matt cruising on his scooter around his neighborhood of Riverwest, or you can find him flipping through albums at one of the many record stores in good ol' MKE.
